Project Details
Tucked behind a row of terraced houses, Courtyard House is a calm, inward-looking home designed for a young family seeking space, light, and privacy within the urban fabric. The design centres around a planted courtyard that brings greenery and daylight deep into the plan, offering a sense of openness while preserving seclusion.
Working within tight site constraints, the house unfolds in a series of connected spaces that blur the line between inside and out. Full-height glazing, minimal detailing, and a palette of soft, natural materials, including timber, stone, and lime plaster create a warm, textural environment that evolves with the light throughout the day.
Sustainability and simplicity guided the design approach, with passive solar orientation, natural ventilation, and low-energy systems integrated from the outset. The result is a home that feels quiet, grounded, and deeply personal, a small sanctuary in the city.
